Te Tini A Maui Kapa Haka Print E-mail

Te Tini A Maui, meaning the "Many Descendants of Maui"  was formed in Vancouver, Canada in 2008.

Our small group is often asked to undertake brief or long; formal and informal performances which can include Haka, Waiata (action song) and Poi.

Sometimes people ask us to perform during a multi-day event e.g. International Wine Festival over 5 days in Vancouver,  World Travel Expo in Las Vegas, ANZAC Annual Ceremony at Vancouver Cenotaph.  Or for just a small welcoming or celebration e.g. First Nations Health Directors AGM, BC Chief n Council Annual Dinner, Point Gray Girl Guides NZ Fundraiser.

Over the past four years our group membership has changed with numbers swelling to as many as 12 performers but with most of our members being very transiant, visits to "Turtle Island" Canada are often for only 12 months. Our group is now looking forward to 2013 and reuniting with our past Canadian members in Hawaii for Te Manahua 2013.

TE MANAHUA 2013:

The 13th Annual Te Manahua competition is being held in Hawaii in August 2013. Te Manahua is a Maori Performing Arts friendly competition for northern hemisphere based Kapa Haka groups. In the past this has involved groups from Hawaii, Japan and London. Te Tini a Maui hopes to be the first Canada-based group to ever attend and perform at this competition in August 2013.

We also want to extend our appreciation to the NZ High Commissioner and staff of the NZ High Commission and Consulate Office who have supported us over the years with referrals and bookings and great inspiration!

Care for Us (CFU) Days and Planning Retreats Print E-mail

We regularly get away at least 6 monthly to do our planning. It is a key part of maintaining our Quality Management Systems, and to ensure we are ‘on track’ with our own goals for the teams’ professional development and for the Company’s development. We will share some photos from these occasions – again so you can have a laugh at our expense but also know that we really DO work when we go on our retreats!

As for the CFU days, these are ½ day sessions each month that our team uses as a means of stress relief and team bonding. It helps to build team and whanau spirit, while also allowing any ‘frustrations’ to be vented against your colleagues! Yes – those paint ball fights and quad-bike riding sessions get truly vicious! Enjoy!
