Mara Andrews - Director and Senior Consultant

Ngāti Kahungunu / Ngāti Raukawa / Whakatōhea (Owner / Director):

Mara has many years of experience associated with Māori development across a variety of spectrums. She worked for the former Central Health Authority and Health Funding Authority (HFA) in the Māori health and Personal health divisions during the 1990’s. She left the HFA in August 2000 to form Kāhui Tautoko Consulting Ltd. Prior to the HFA she worked for the former Department of Māori Affairs (DMA), Māori Land Court, Māori Trust Office, Iwi Transition Agency and Te Puni Kōkiri. Mara has an MBA from Henley (United Kingdom) and a Diploma in Business Studies from Massey University (Majoring in Health Management). In addition Mara is a World Health Organisation (WHO) Fellow (1999). She has many years of experience managing projects and working in a policy environment both in indigenous / Government settings and other settings.

Careene has a background in business management having managed the Wellington and Christchurch offices of Flight Centre Corporate. Careene has been with the Company since May 2008 in varying roles. Her Management role in the Company requires her to manage, oversee and monitor all Company affairs including financial, staffing, marketing, compliance, health & safety and governance obligations for the Company. Most of her consulting role in the Company involves managing projects and working in capacity building, research, information gathering, analysis and reporting for Maori organizations and training and engagement processes with Maori organizations. She is a trained Lead Auditor and Health and Safety specialist and leads all of our Audit, Accreditation and Quality Assurance work.

Patrick Hape - Project Consultant

Patrick’s background is within te reo and tikanga Māori training within the public sector. As a Bachelor of Arts Honours graduate, with First Class, at Victoria University, he provides research expertise suitable for our working environment.
His experience has been drawn from previous positions in departments such as the Kōhanga Reo National Trust, Victoria University school of Māori Studies and NZ School of Music and the Māori Land Court, Waitangi Tribunal and the wider Ministry of Justice. Patrick is competent in conducting focus groups and interviews through his involvement with different projects including the Industry Training, Smoking Cessation, Whānau Ora, conference evaluations and Tū Kaha 2016 conference development and implementation.
Patrick is well versed in all Māori settings and environments including being a fluent speaker of te reo Māori and a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o te Reo – the Institute of Te Reo Māori Excellence in
2014.
